The majority of my designs are made from and with sterling silver and 14Kt Gold Filled wire and components combined with Fresh Water Pearls, Gemstone beads, Swarovski Crystals, and occasionally some glass.  I do have a few pieces of 14Kt and 10Kt Gold.  However, my goal was to create high quality pieces at affordable prices.  I do not use any gold or silver plated items.  I do incorporate pewter in my designs.  Gold filled is made by heat and pressure-bonding a thin layer of 14Kt or 12Kt Gold to a brass core.  The gold covers the brass surface, making it tarnish-resistant.  The gold will not wear off like the microscopic film of gold applied during plating.  Gold-filled jewelry has an actual layer of karat gold making it more valuable than gold plated jewelry, and subject to the ever changing cost of gold.  However, gold filled jewelry is economical with the same rich look of gold at a fraction of the cost
